These are some cars that I drove over the years before my injury
This is my Dad and some of his cars.
This is my brother Mike and myself.
The wrecked car in the photos was his second car. This happpened in the 1970 Championship race. Dad was leading coming to the checkers when he was spun by the second place car. Dad went after him in the pits with a short piece of chain.(and was subsequently detained by the Police until the other guy left the track) Dad had affectionally called that car "The Sherman Tank" due to it's crash worthiness. That 1970 race was it's last.
The next car was "El Toro", the chestnut colored 39 in the small center picture. This was probaly the winningest car(over 50 wins) and was campaigned from 1971 until 1973.
The light blue 39 at the top was "The Little Giant" and was debuted at the end of 73. The car was built using the original uni-body and the torsion bar suspension like Chrysler used on its new kit cars. It probably weighed less than 2500 pounds race ready. It also had a new "LA" series 340 as opposed to the older "C" block 301's he had been running. The car was very fast. In the first race, he started near the back but was leading by the time he reached the middle of the back straight where it was crashed, climbing the wall and ending up on its roof. The car was rebuilt using a 55 Chevy frame and still won many races.
The red 11 was built as a duplicate to the rebuilt Little Giant, and was completed in the spring of 75. It raced until 1983 or 84.
Dad started building another uni-body car in 82, a 75 Dodge Dart Sport. The car wasn't completed until 1984, and by then he had installed a 55 Chevy frame in that car as well. He felt like the uni-body cars were just not strong enough.
